General Consultors from Europe and not only

The General Chapter elected all six General Consultors on 11 November 2016. This means that the new General Council is complete and it will work until 2022.

Two General Consultors were elected from the Conference of Redemptorists of Europe: Fr. Cecilio Alberto Eseverri and Fr. Pedro Lopez Calvo. Both of them are from the Madrid Province of the Redemptorists.

Others consultors are: Br. Jeffrey Rolle (Conference of North America); Fr. Rogerio Gomes (Conference of Latin America and the Caribbean), Fr. Nicolas Issifi Ayouba Martin (Conference of Africa-Madagascar), Fr. Sebastianus Ani Dato (Conference of Asia-Oceania),

The Conference of Redemptorists of Europe also thank Fr. Jacek Dembek for his work as General Consultor during two terms (2003 – 2016) and for all his cooperation with the Conference. We wish him well and pray that God will bless him in his new ministry.

Below are brief personal records of the Consultors from Europe:

 

Fr. CECILIO ALBERTO ESEVERRI LASPALAS

Fr. Cecilio Alberto Eseverri Laspalas was born on Sunday, January 11, 1959 in Ochagavía, Navarra, Spain. He is the eldest of five brothers born of the marriage of Félix (deceased) and Irene.

Before entering the Redemptorist novitiate he did his basic education, which led to specialization in the management of companies dedicated to tourism. After his studies, he worked some years with different companies in this sector.

In 1986 he came into contact with the Redemptorists in Pamplona. At the end of the international meeting for RYVM in August 1988, in the monastery of El Espino, he entered the novitiate and made his first profession a year later, on September 9, 1989. He pursued his studies of philosophy and theology in the Pontifical University of Salamanca. He was perpetually professed in July 1994 and was ordained priest on December 18, 1994.

In preparation for going on mission to the Ivory Coast he did a licentiate in Religious Studies at the Catholic University of Paris. Afterwards, he spent two years on the mission in Tiébissou, Ivory Coast.

His time as a formator was between 1997-2007. He served as the Prefect of Postulants, Novice Master and Assistant to the Novice Master in the interprovincial novitiate of the then Region of Europe-South in Ciorani, Italy.

He also worked as an assistant pastor in various parishes during his time as a formator. He was part of the itinerant mission team, CESPLAM, which preached missions in Spain and Honduras. He later obtained a Masters Degree in Family Counseling from the University of Salamaca and exercised this ministry in various centers.

Since 2004 he has been a member of the provincial government of the Province of Madrid, first as a member of the extraordinary council and later as a member of the ordinary council.

At the XXIV General Chapter in 2009 he was elected a General Consultor for the 2009-2015 sexennium. He starts now his second term.

Fr. Pedro LÓPEZ CALVO CSsR

Pedro Lopez Calvo was born in Jayena (Granada) Spain, on 23rd July 1962. He had the first religious profession on 8th of September 1981. He was ordained as the priest on 20th December 1987.

He was working in a pastoral missionary group “Cesplam” from 1988 to 2008. He was the president of this group (12 years). He was preaching the popular missions in Spain and Latin America and in special way he devoted himself to youth ministry and to the preaching of spiritual retreats.

He was the member of the PJVR-team, of the Secretariat for Evangelization, the head of the NGO-Redemptorist, of Association for Solidarity and Redemptorist Volunteering. He was the Provincial Consulter for three years, the Vicar Provincial during six years and he is the Provincial Superior in the Province of Madrid since 2008.

On the level of religious life in Spain: he is the Chairman of the Center CONFER (CONFER – the Conference of Religious Institutes in Spain), the member of the General Council of the CONFER National.

He was working in various teams on the level of the Congregation of Redemptorists: he was the member of the General Secretariat for Evangelization (2004-2009), President of the Economic Commission for Academia Alfonsiana, and Delegate of the Superior General to accompany the young Redemptorists in francophone-zone in Europe.

On the European level of CSSR, he was the President of Region of South Europe, Coordinator of the Conference of Redemptorists of Europe (from November 2009 until June 2011). He is now the member of the Council of CRE and the President of the Secretariat for Evangelization in CRE.
